Can old yugioh decks beat new yugioh decks?
I played Yugioh growing up, and I recently got back into it sort of. I only have older cards, but i see that there are new cards like the lightsworn things. I'm wondering if decks like dark magician decks or the older stuff like that could keep up with the newer decks?

Old cards have almost been completely outclassed by the newer cards. Most of the old cards that are still used today are the basic spell/trap cards like Solemn Judgment, Mirror Force, Giant Trunade, Monster Reborn, Dark Hole, etc..
The older monster cards are almost not used at all in any decks.

The thing with the older and newer deck debate is this: the newer decks play a different strategy than the older ones. With each new card pack that comes out in Yugioh, the game changes, it evolves!
That's where the older decks end up having problems. Newer decks are all about speed, a lot of decks like the Six Samurai or Dragunity Deck manage to summon high lvl monsters within the first two turns. Older decks can't do that.
However, it is possible to take an older deck, like the Dark Magician Deck, and update it, in a way. All you have to do is add some newer cards to it. For example, Dark Magician Decks can be turned into Spellcaster or Spell-Counter decks, which can both use the Spellcaster Synchro Monsters to pawn.
A completely old deck really can't do anything against a new deck, no matter how you build it. You will have to get some of the new cards to at least update your old deck, or you could try playing a completely different deck. Whichever route you go, I wish you the best of luck.

The Decks count towards alot dont get me wrong but... The player is what really counts... I meen the skill of course. But if you take into account the banned cards and such you can see some of the older decks are a little choppy now. Im NOT saying all are. Though and older deck with alot of effort put into creating it can be just as good as a newer deck. My opinion is the newer decks are better with the synchro moves and "newer" effects/spells/traps. Though it takes alot of skill to play newer decks that have a MAIN purpose because they are custom built and are difficult to use. Older decks are easier to use but with less of a kick. So it sort of balances out. So even to they Could be balanced decks, I still lean towards the Newer decks in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Nope, older decks can't really keep up with new ones no matter how they're built. Some old cards are still commonly used today, such as Solemn Judgment, Mystical Space Typhoon, and Mirror Force, but decks only using old cards can't be successful today as the game has become much faster and more competitive over the years.

actually retros are pretty good even though not lots have great effect monsters but have sum overpowered ones like blue eyes. the spells and traps are still used and someone at my school runs a retro deck with a few of Pegasuses cards from his structure deck and other cards that go together but i still say new cards are better if u wanna mix them well that may be good in my opinion

Actually malefic and all those decks can be easily beat by my retro deck I only use lvl 2 or lower normal monsters

Possibly, with the right strategy and luck of the draw. Unless, of course, your opponent is using that new "Pendulum" crap. Those are kinda OP, depending on what monsters are in their hand, and if they have a bunch of powerful XYZ monsters.
