What is the difference from getting a 3G hotspot and a data plan?

3G hotspot means your phone will be able to TURN into an internet hotspot so that anyone around you with an computer or internet capable electronic device can connect to the internet THROUGH YOUR phone. If you're just gonna be using it for personal use, then just a data plan will give your phone alone access to the internet.

A data plan can only be used by the phone and is usually required to use a smart phone on the carrier's network. A portable wifi hotspot converts 3g (or 4g) signals into wifi and that wifi can be accessed by multiple devices.

If your carrier requires a data plan, that's what you get. If your carrier does not require a data plan, you have a choice of which you can get and, you can even get a wifi device from a different carrier.

well Data Plan work every where u go and 3G hot spot work on hot spot coverage area like airport, Coffey shop etc. very limited.
