The ratings didn't go up, and Couric's contract wasn't renewed. That's the business. She gave it a shot, but CBS has had trouble trying to return to its high standards from the past.
I think she was better in the role with the Today show, but had to give CBS a shot.

She never did capture the following that CBS thought she would. Most Left leaning news networks don't have a big audience. But Couric had a contract with CBS and they waited until it was up.
