How do i fix my laptop battery?

my laptop is always giving me warnings that there is something wrong with the battery and that it might suddenly turn off, and the past few weeks it has been. how do i fix this without sending it back because i don't want to have to pay for a new battery. my CPU is an HP. help me please

    Unplug your laptop from the wall and let it run on battery power only, discharging the battery all the way until the laptop turns off. Then, plug the charger back in with the laptop turned off overnight while you aren't using it. You may wind up with a better charge that time. If not, it's definitely time for a new battery.

    I know you've said that you don't want to pay for a new battery but you're going have to sooner or later... Better sooner or you just going to end up with a laptop that won't turn on.
