Typically the shop would replace the axle with a new remanufactured one. Check the part cost and add the labor shop time quoted. Ireland is more than a stone's throw from here!

They do make a cv boot that is split down the middle and you can wrap it around the cv joint. In the U.S. is less than 20 USD. It's a kit that comes w/ a degreaser spray, the boot, new grease, & two clamps. A complete replacement boot requires you to remove the axel. It's very labour intensive & that would take a couple of hrs + parts. $300-400 USD here for that.

why mess around with replacing the boot. you have to pull the hub anyway so you might as well replace the axle. it will come with new boots and already have the grease in it. if you take it to the garage they will just replace the whole axle.

It is such a big job changing the boot and with out grease the cv joint has been damaged, it is smarter to change the whole shaft. they sell split boots that are easier to install but they don't give a good seal. I charge $170 american dollars plus 6% sales tax but you need to bring it to me in Scranton,Pa
