HELP WITH GIMP PHOTO EDITOR?

I'm new to using the software gimp....

i dont understand how to get a picture to even show up for me to start editing..

please help

    Elizabeth, you need to open the picture.

    In GIMP click File > Open > navigate to the image file, select it and click Open.

    I've never used GIMP but i think that you would have been saving the picture as a "GIMP" file. Open the picture in GIMP again and then save it as a different format eg. Jpeg. Then when you open it up it should just display the photo in a little preview window.
