Was it immoral that the US government declared airstrikes on Libya?
I want to say yes, it was. But I'm not sure how to support my position.

NO.
To have the ability to prevent MILITARY forces from killing civilians that are simply protesting the decades of exploitation imposed by a ruthless, merciless dictator and do nothing would be immoral.
Qaddafi has repressed free thought in Libya since the mid 1970s.He declared a nation wide celebration of intellectual freedoms, invited all the writers and intellectuals to a national festival then proceeded to imprison and torture them. Then he outlawed any opposing political parties.
He had to hire foreign mercenaries because he could not depend on Libyan soldiers to carry out orders against fellow Libyans.
They begged for assistance.Imagine being brutalized by a gang of thugs while onlookers shout support but do nothing when they obviously have superior ability to even the fight
