How can the law of abrogation be justified against the original writings that gave us the Qu ran?

Doesn't this create a sense of uncertainty about who to believe and what text to follow?

I don't understand your question. But I'll attempt to answer.

"None of Our revelations do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?" [2:106]

The above verse was talking the original Torah, and Bible. God did not abrogate those revelations....but he substituted them something better (Quran). The final revelation is the complete and perfect revelation, which we must follow, word for word.

There is no abrogation in the Quran itself.

Salam The law of abrogation during Ustman Bin Affan Caliph was justified for determining the original and right/true writings that gave us the original Qur'an By abrogation it would not create a sense of uncertainty about the text which should be followed

The law of abrogation - if there is a verse in the Quran and God wants to abrogate it, another verse has to abrogate it.

No hadith can ever abrogate a Quranic verse. Since the Quran has been untampered with, then there should be no uncertainty.

However, to know about the Meccan/Medinah verses and what verses have been abrogated, one must be knowledgable enough to know about the history of the verses. That is why the more knowledge a Muslim knows, the higher their degree is (Islam is not just about actions but actions with knowledge).

there is no such thing called "law of abrogation" in Islam. What there is that few verses which were revealed LATER to prophet Muhammad have superseded those that were revealed EARLIER because the prophet received the Quran over 23 years. This does not mean any verse were removed, as none were, simply both are still there in the text of the Quran. The verses that were made to supersede are per instructions from the Prophet himself in his lifetime. For example these like verses that had to do with prohibitions , and in Allahs wisdom the prohibitions were gradual , to allow for converts to get used Islam as a religion they can follow, and because earlier Muslims were smaller in number and weaker than Quraish , but when their numbers and strength grew it was time for full application of the law .

The prophet recited with Gabriel the entire completed Quran twice in the last Ramadan before he died. It was fully written down in several volumes or suras but not compiled into one book. At the same time all the companions of the Prophet memorized it by heart and they were in thousands of people. So preservation of the text at that time was not in question at all. But what happened 20 years later during the Othman period, the 3rd Calipha, is that many of those who memorized the Quran by heart began to die, and at the same time geographic areas Islam was reaching vastly expanded out of Arabia into Egypt and Persia , and these 2 fact alerted Muslims that it was time to compile from volumes into one standardized "Mus-haf". For this Othman appointed the Prophet Companion Zaid ibn Thabit , who was a memorizer of the Quran , and they required that in order for any verse to be entered in this "Mus-haf" that a minimum of 2 companions of the prophet (at least if not many) agree exactly on its text and position. The Prophet had previously approved 7 Arabic dialects for pronunciation of the Quran, they are not different texts, simply they are pronunciations. Thus they also agreed that the text would adhere to Quraish (Meccan) pronunciation of Arabic to avoid any issues in marking them on paper. And based on this criteria an entire standard Quran was compiled into one original , and 7 exact duplicates were made and sent to the various places such as Syria, Persia, Iraq, Yemen, and Egypt etc. Of those original seven originals 2 or 3 still exist today.

This shows Othman did no abrogation at all , he simply compiled the existing volumes of the Quran into one Mus-haf , in the order described by the Prophet himself, and as a safety measure each verse had to be authenticated by prophet companions who memorized the Quran , under the supervision of Zaid Ibn Thabit. The fact that some of those original copies still exist today leaves no chance for doubt that this is the same Quran that was revealed to the Prophet PBUH.

Why didn't he get it right in the first place? Correcting oneself is not the sign of al all-powerful god.
