What are some good French books to read?

I'm in French III at my high school. The only French books that I have completely read so far are Le Petit Prince and Persepolis. What are some good books where the French isn't too complicated?

    Bonjour Tristesse by Francois Sagan

    L'Etranger by Albert Camus

They're both modern classics, in fairly simple language, and they're both short, so they should be manageable reads for you. I read them when I was studying French at school.

If you wanted to try reading a play, then Les Mains Sale by Jean-Paul Sartre is good, and again, pretty easy to read with a good plot.

If you like crime/mystery, then Fred Vargas' modern crime novels are excellent. And Georges Simenon's Maigret series are older crime novels which are easy reads, nothing taxing, but are good page-turners.

Hello, I'm French. I don't know about "not too complicated", but I find the students I taught French to have very much enjoyed L'Etranger and Les Justes by Albert Camus and Candide by Voltaire. Honore de Balzac's Boule de Suif is very good and the book contains a few great short stories. I particularly recommend La Parure (the Necklace). Also try Le Horla by Guy de Maupassant; it's a novella.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses by Choderlos de Laclos would be more complex but is really brilliant.

So that's a few for you to try.
