Help I need guy advice!!?

So a few weeks ago I messaged this guy I have a huge crush on. He never said anything back. I don't know how to take it. I think I need to get over him but to do that I need him to pretty much tell me we have no chance of being together. So I was thinking about messaging him on facebook again and flat out asking why he didn't message me back. Its not how I wanted to do it but I won't see him again for awhile. What do you think I should do message him or not? One of my friends said just go for it because I have nothing to lose and the other told me it was a bad idea. I don't know which one to listen to.
