    Its just amazing how much information can be found online with just a teeny bit of searching.

    With a Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) of 6, the eruption in 1883 was equivalent to 200 megatons of TNT (about 13,000 times the yield of the Hiroshima bomb).

    they tried to save people and that was the only way they could rescue them, by running as far as they could.
