Should I get an ipad 2?
I am going into second year of university and I was thinking of getting the ipad 2. I want it to be the thing I take to the university that I can take notes on, open pdfs for lectures, and obviously surfing the net. I want to get the wi-fi with 3g just because the plan is only 20 bucks and some places in the university are dead spots for wifi and when I travel. Can it do all the things I think it can? Would this be a good buy? Oh ya and it will not be replacing a laptop. I have a macbook.

You should find the iPad very useful. Not only will it run the standard stuff, but it will also do mind mapping and other graphics apps. Useful for sharing information in group work as it's easier to share the display by tilting.
Note taking works well, but is probably slower than typing on a normal keyboard.
Portability is excellent.
The camera can be used to capture diagrams on flip charts and whiteboards. These can be imported into other programs for further annotation.

HONESTLY, and this is a non bias, completely honest opinion, unless you're the type of dude that is a complete apple fanboy, who has the iPod, the iPhone, the macbook and uses iTunes all the time... don't get an iPad. Get an Android 3.0 (HoneyComb) tablet.
There are three main contenders IMO.
1. ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (would be PERFECT for you if you want to take notes.)

I'll let the site explain it for you, but in terms of low form factor tablet, + a useable keyboard, seriously mate, don't overlook this.
2. Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
3. Motorola XOOM

Keep in mind you can get a much better computer/laptop for that price, any model/variation of the ipad.
It can do all those things, but you really won't need 3g, to save yourself money if you are going to get one because schools have wifi.
