Magic the Gathering: Does Myr Galvanizer untap Myr Turbine and Myr Resevoir?

Myg Galvanizer's effect says 1,Tap: Untap all other Myr you control. Myr Turbine and Myr Resevoir are Artifacts and not creatures, but Galvanizer simply states "untap all other Myr you control." Also, can you explain why it does or doesn't fully? Thanks!

No, Myr Galvanizer does not untap the Turbine and Reservoir. The reason has to do with card types and creature types, versus card names.

You know that all cards have a "card type", of which there are very few. These are Land, Enchantment, Sorcery, Instant, Creature, Artifact and Planeswalker.

Creatures also have what is called a "creature type". There are hundreds of creature types in Magic, and often a creature will have more than one type.

This is important to understand because effects will often refer to one of these types by a specific name. In this case, Myr Galvanizer is referring to the creature type "Myr", and looks around the battlefield for creatures that match this type. All creatures with the Myr creature type are then untapped.

Myr Turbine and Myr Reservoir are not creatures, however, and nowhere in their "type line" does the word "Myr" appear. They are simply artifacts. The fact that they have the word "Myr" in their card names is irrelevant unless some effect said to find that specific card.

For instance, the spell Haunting Echoes is used to exile a player's graveyard, then says "search that player's library for all cards with the same name as [those cards] and exile them". This is one of the few instances in which a card's name is taken into account for a spell's effect. In most other cases of the game, a card's name is only used by players to refer to them more easily.

Just as Devious stated. It comes down to the card's type and Sub-Type in the card.

Myr Turbine and Myr Reservoir are both Typed as Artifact.

Myr creatures are typed as "Artifact Creature - Myr".

If the Turbine and Reservoir had Artifact - Myr, then they would be untapped as well, but unfortunately that isn't the case. Hope this helps to clarify.

Any 2 of the mana generating myr (like copper myr) plus 2 myr galvanizers = infinite mana. Myr Turbine is a great card for the deck too.

No, it doesn't. While myr turbine and myr reservoir has myr in it's name, it is not actually a myr. Myr is a creature subtype. All myr has "artifact creature - myr" below their art whereas the turbine and reservoir are only an artifact.

Does it list them as Myr in the line underneath the artwork? Then no. Only spells with the subtype "Myr" would become untapped by that ability.
