Measuring hands- why isn't the math working?
Okay so....
5'2"=62" 62/4= 15.5= 16.1 hands
5'4"=64" 64/4= 16 hands
what am I missing here cause....
62" is shorter than 64," so how come...
62"=15.5/16.1 hands and 64"=16 hands?

First, forget about the decimal system, which has nothing to do with this even though we call it a point as in a decimal point. Think of it as an "and" so that you are saying 15 hands AND 1 inch (15.1 hh), or 15 hands AND 2 inches (15.2 hh) , or AND 3 inches (15.3 hh). Since each hand is 4 inches, you don't say 15 hands AND 4 inches (15.4 hh), because that makes the horse 16 hh.
You can't apply traditional math to this. It is about hands AND inches. If a horse is 67 inches tall, he is 16.3 hh
(67 inches divided by 4 inches = 16 hands with 3 inches left over, or 16 hands and 3 inches (16.3 hh)
In traditional math using the decimal system, 16.1 would be expressed as 16.25, with the .25 referring to a quarter of a hand. 16.2 would be expressed as 16.50 (or just 16.5), with the .50 referring to a half of a hand, and 16,3 would be expressed as 16.75, with .75 referring to 3/4 of a hand.

You used the calculator to work it out so when you got 15.5 you too the .5 to mean five inches but it was .5 of the original 4 so half of four is two giving you two inches.
My math was and is correct so apology please.

your math on the first one is incorrect. well its right. but 15.5 doesn't equal 16.1 it equals 15.2 hh lol
