Makinon lens / Canon Rebel XT?

First off, I'm new to the SLR game. I recently got a Canon Rebel XT. I then bought a Makinon (MC) 200mm lens on ebay. I was disappointed to find that they do not fit together! Is there any way to find a reasonably priced converter?

I found one on ebay which states "Makinon No.1 Tele Converter 2x For Canon FD Mount", <http://cgi.ebay.com/Makinon-No-1-Tele-Converter-2x...

Will this work?

Don't fret! There are solutions. Though the other comments may seem harsh, I remember the days of such confusion.

The lens you bought (if it states"MC") is for a MINOLTA camera (MC mount). Canon EOS uses EF and EFS mounts.

Your link takes me to an FD mount. In eBay, search for "FD to EOS adapter. FD lenses are manual focus anyway, so no loss of functionality.

If it actually is an MC mount, search for "MC to EOS adapter". For MC to EOS, be sure to read description of the items and to choose one that has "glass" in it. The adapters that do not have glass will only allow you to take macro photos where as the glass included adapters focus to infinity. Also be sure it's an AF confirm. These vital contacts tell your camera there is a lens attached to it and will allow you to continue. Even though it's "AF (autofocus) confirm", this adapter may not allow you to use your camera's auto focus, but does allow you to use manual focus. Sounds crazy, I know, but it's like dropping a 426 hemi into a Ford Thunderbird lol There's gonna be some sacrifice of functionality.

The SLR is not a game. It's a camera. That converter you found will not work. It will only double the focal length of a lens with a Canon FD mount. You camera has a Canon EF mount.

You should try to identify the Makinon's mount. From there, look for an adapter that will mount it to a Canon EF or EOS body. If your Makinon lens was described to have a Canon mount, it's most likely to be FD. All you need then is to get an FD to EF adapter. Bear in mind that all automatic functions will be lost which may include the lightmeter function.

Your Canon XT only accepts EF and EF-S lenses. Whether it is from a 35mm camera or another Canon DSLR, as long as it is EF or EF-S then it will fit. Canon FD lenses will not fit on a Canon DSLR without the use of an adapter, which isn't something that we should rejoice about unless you already have a number of FD lenses then it would make sense to not put it to waste. Other than that, I think your best bet is to find a lens that has the EF/EF-S mount. The EF lenses from a 35mm will fit a Canon DSLR, but a EF-S from a DSLR will not fit on a 35mm. So, if you want to be safe about it, just look for one that is EF.

So I'm curious why would you buy a lens that does not say EF or EF-S compatible with Canon mount. Did you think lens mounts are universal? - guess you know now that they're not.

Converters aren't the best idea. Many times they won't let the camera and lens "talk" so auto focus and exposure won't work.

I agree, buy another lens, this one made by Canon for Canon cameras.

Step 1: sell the junk lens you bought that does not fit your camera.

Step 2: read the instructions that came with your camera to prevent doing something dumb again in the future.
