Is my P4 CPU bottleneck my HD4670 1GB?

This is my current spec:

Intel P4 550J HT 3.4Ghz

2.5GB RAM

500GB 7200RPM HDD

HIS Radeon HD4670 IceQ 1GB (Stock)

I've been playing C&C3 Tiberium War, Red Faction Guerrilla, Supreme Commander 2, Fallout 3 and some other older games, but there're only 2 game which is Red Faction and sometime Fallout 3 and C&C3 that is significantly decrease in frame rate, but the only problem is that Red Faction, which near unplayable when set the setting on medium. Occasionally on C&C3, it lag abit when use a superweapon on a middle of a large base with many troops in it.

So the question is is it cause by that P4? And what should I do to increase the frame rate without replace that CPU?

If I should upgrade the CPU which one should I go for?

This is my Motherboard's spec:

ASUS PTGD1-LA PufferM

Socket: LGA775

i915P Chipset Thanks

No, He can't take the plunge into Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quads. His board is DDR1 which is incompatible with the newer lga775 chips. He will have to purchase a new board / cpu / ram .

Do not buy the above suggested.

Yes, your p4 bottlenecks a 4670 , it's a single core, and most if not all games now support 2 cores!

The Pentium 4 is a definite bottleneck. The HD4670 is a decently performing video card, while the P4 is a very low-end CPU that will bottleneck anything recently released.

Luckily, your motherboard supports LGA775, meaning that you can take the plunge towards a C2D or a C2Q. Here are a list of LGA775 CPUs are Newegg:

I would recommend going for a quad-core, but, depending on your budget, you may want to with like a E6500.

    I hope this helps!

i do no longer think of you would be very pleased with homestead windows 7 on that laptop. some months in the past, I put in the homestead windows 7 32 bit beta version on a working laptop or laptop with a three.06 ghz pentium 4 with 2 GB of RAM. It did no longer paintings ok. It substitute into sluggish and unresponsive. It could no longer even finished the homestead windows adventure Index attempt. i do no longer understand despite if that's any extra beneficial now, yet i do no longer think of it is going to paintings ok. (it worked great with an upgraded processor.) in case you do choose for it, the 32 bit is your ultimate guess. although, i could propose a considerable hardware improve.
