Is it possible to request the funds held for 5 months from Social Security?
We had to appeal the orignal decision, but they held 5 months "just in case" and no one knows where this money goes, but we could really use the funds they held back! Would like to see about getting it if at all possible.

You only have two options, if you have an attorney consult with them otherwise call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 and ask them what the process entails, the situation as you are describing sounds very unusual and not normal procedure.~

What kind of case is this, SSDI or SSI, or some other kind of case? When your claim is approved you will probably get that money.
