FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHERS- How much help do you have in your classroom?

Question

I am struggling with giving my students everything they need in my classroom.  I am working late every afternoon trying to keep the room in order and get everything I need finished.  I know I am not the only teacher out there working hard, but I am curious.  At our school I have 18 first graders with an assistant for 1 hour daily.  However, my assistant is often pulled for other classes so I can not depend on planning for that 1 hour with an assistant.  

How often do you have an assistant in the classroom with you?

Well at my school we have teachers aids. They stay in the class room and are basically assistants that just do whatever the teacher need for them to do. They have a teaching degree and can even act as a subsitute when the teacher is gone. There are also numerous room moms and room parents that come up to do some volinteer work like the teachers aids. Some of the junior high kids also sign up for an elective as a teachers aid to come help the teachers. They have this for the whole elementary. And we are a Private School in California. I hope this helps or at least gives you an idea. :)

I am an assistant for a third grade teacher and I am there for roughly 45 minutes every day from 9:45 to 10:30, she has another assistant who comes for 45 minutes in the afternoon, she has a woman who comes and takes a few students out of the classroom to teach them for about an hour every day, and she has another teacher who is there the entire time every day. There are 16 students in the class.
I live in southwestern PA.
