Question regarding spin off and cartridge oil filters?
I have a 2007 VW Passat 2.0T. It has the cartridge filter and filter housing set up. I found a filter online that says it's an exact fit for this car, but it's the standard Spin Off filter, that does not need the housing. Am I able to use this kind of filter on the Passat?
Thanks Louis. The reason for posting is because of the housing itself. It's leaking a little and I'm exploring every way I can think of to try to fix the issue. I'm going down to the VW dealer today to see if I can get a replacement housing for it.

No, you must use the cartridge type filter. You can not use the canister type filters.
The filter must look like the one below. I usually order from that site, and get 5 of them at once. usually enough for a year or so for me. I have found the proper filter at a local Pep Boys also. If you get the "spin off" filter, it won't fit at all and you will just end up returning it.

if it has a place to spin the filter on behind the housing you should be able to use the spin on filter.
