do senior citizens listen to rap?

or are they genetically built to only listen to frank sinatra and the monkees?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiVS8smTcLQ

Update:

just as i suspected. do they listen to the "crash, crash, bang" music either?

Update 2:

exactly, james. that's what i've been thinking. it'll be pretty intense when seniors are listening to more gangster music than their grandchildren and call them *******.

Update 3:

rap is horrific now. rap started to suck after the very early 2000s. 90s rap is the best.

The rap music of 1955 was entertaining story telling.

But this genre should have ended with Queen.

I only liked it when the "artists" could depend on clever rhyme & great story telling skills.

Now-a-days, they only need to find every imaginable word that rhymes with "-uck" & "-itches" and a song is born.

No, and they are not likely to start.

There are untold potential geniuses that never made it big because the music industry dictated that one had to at least play an instrument but mostly had to be able to sing. Rap came along and rewrote that equation. It's syncopated poetry ... a bit like what the beatniks introduced in the 50s.

I agree ... 90s rap was the best because it initiated a fad that doesn't have the backbone to get any better.

In my opinion ... a good voice means they can sing.

I worked at Job Corp for a few years, driving around with the rap generation. what started out as loud awful noise, began to take form and I became a fan of quite a bit of rap. The Monkeys??? Get real. I did not listen when they were popular, much preferring the Stones. Check your music history, a little concert in the 60's named Woodstock would let you know what we Sr. were listening to.

I listen to some of everything. Almost. While I am not fond of rap as a whole, there are some songs I like. I Love the Way You Lie tells a powerful and very sad story for example.

I never listen to Frank Sinatra unless forced. and I never EVER watched Lawrence Welk.

Everyone likes what they like, I guess.

Nope. This senior doesn't listen to rap even though I have rather eclectic taste in music.

I am a Sinatra fan. I seem to remember my entire high school class signing an oath in blood that we'd show proof of breaking our Monkey LP's to receive our diplomas.

As I moved into my late 30's I gained an appreciation for classical music. My husband is an opera buff. I never expected to enjoying that music but I do.

I personally don't care for Rap and much of the so-called songs today are tonally redundant and lack any pleasing melody. The old tunes are great for listening; my favorite period is the 70s. However, I really enjoy creative, true talents like Lady Gaga. I enjoy Glee and Idol.

I have tried but I do not relate to that world & their inspiration. Shakespeare rhymed & voiced a much broader array but his exposure may have been greater that the influences of these young people. However, in Shakespeare's time - there were many more who tried & he is truly the only one remembered. I would think that Rap will also result with perhaps only remembered in the distant future. I actually prefer melodic music without words which why I like jazz, rock & classical music. I like Miles & Coltrane in their expression much more than any of the themes expressed by Rappers.

Try this for an ugly image of the future 40 years from now. Today's young people as seniors will have rap on the oldies station, have distorted and faded tattoos all over, and wrinkled and stretched out body piercing holes and scares. And the reason they looked that way to begin with was because they were unemployable and lived with their mothers until in their 30s. Yup, got a bright future in the US and the UK. LOL.

Genetically built? No. Rap is just total crap. they have better taste in music than people of my generation. And I'm 15. And I love Frank Sinatra.
