Tornado sounding siren at airports?

Hi guys. I live about 5 minutes away from a pretty big international airport. Sometimes at night I hear what sounds like a siren going off, what I think sounds like a hurricane/tornado/tsunami siren, but we don't have that kind of weather like that where I live.

So my question is, do airports use really scary sounding sirens? If it helps I heard it tonight and we've been having severe thunderstorms, but that's it really.
