How do you recover windows if it crashes in safe mode on startup?
My pc froze while it was opening a webpage, so I unplugged it, and now it crashes on the windows loading screen for a regular startup, and crashes while loading the data for safe mode... how do I recover windows to a working state
Windows xp, alienware area 51 m5500 laptop, ati x700, 2gb ram, I believe a celeron processor

oddly enough, it started up fine after crashing a few times

You have to boot from an XP installer disk and try to repair the OS. If it can't repair it then you have to do a clean install. Warning: data on your drive C will be erased. I hope you have a backup. If you don't back them up using this:

That bootable CD has a mini Windows XP OS which will allow you to browse your hard drive and save your data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a different drive in your computer other than drive C.
