Depressed over animal testing?

I recently read an article about animal testing within large corporations and I'm feeling quite bad. The reason I read the thing to begin with was because someone got angry with me fro supporting Proctor and Gamble and their animal testing because I use their product (California Naturals Dog Food). SO, I decided last night that I wouldn't use it anymore and I would refuse to support any company that tests on animals. This was proving difficult in the grocery store (even the all natural store) with the PETA approved list I took with me. Furthermore I have a serious medical condition that I have to medicate even though I hate drugs and have protested the use of with several doctors over the past few years. The fact is there isn't always a natural or holistic remedy for certain diseases. GSK and Lilly are makers of two drugs I take and they are both evil monster corporations. Between P&G, Unilever, Colgate/Palmolive, General Mills and Monsanto it's becoming impossible to purchase safe and healthy foods. P&G gobbles up my dog food company last year. Monsanto buys out Whole Foods this year. Whats next? Can you even flip a light switch without hurting someone or something these days? Am I wasting my time trying to boycott with my wallet when the small companies keep being absorbed by multi-nationals? It seems when we try to use something other than the big companies they simply take away the safer and smarter choices with their almost infinite amount of money. I'd enjoy any positive feedback anybody might have. I feel hopelessly depressed and powerless!

First of all, PETA is an unethical company. Don't let them worry you over your medicine. The founder is diabetic and she uses insulin. Some things require you to do what you have to do and, while its a horrible part of life, it is in fact life. The best thing to do is minimize the most you can. I order all my cleaning supplies, vitamins and protein shakes, even shampoos and eye make up remover from this website....itseasytobegreen.myshaklee.com Everything sold on this site has not been tested on an animal:)

Not all animal testing is bad. It's not like they just try out anything on the animals just to see how much they can ham animals. Most animal testing is done very humanly. And often the products tested are already approved for humans.

Not all drugs are bad. When you say "natural or holistic", that's a drug. It's a chemical that acts on the body chemistry. The only difference between "medicine" and "natural" is the first is prescribed by a doctor, the second is given by someone who may or may not have training.

The reason you feel hopeless is because you've set an unrealistic and unreasonable standard.

Let's take soap as an example. You expect no animal testing. Zero. They have a formula that they know will work. I guess they can test it on humans. I human testing better. Or they can release it to market without testing. But that's basically a mass human test.

Animal testing can potentially save thousands of lives.

Drugs, do save thousands of lives.

I remember back in the 70's when we were boycotting Nestle Foods for sending inferior baby formula to third-world countries. It made a difference! They evaluated their policies and changed their practices.

You can choose to live independently to a certain extent. I used to make my own cat and dog food out of a 10-pound bag of chicken quarters (boil 'em up and take the meat off the bones), some rice, some vegetables and lots of broth. You can freeze the portions that don't get eaten immediately and feel somewhat smug about having beaten the system on that one occasion.

You're not wasting your time. You're thinking and acting on your own towards a direction that is right. While it's true that we are becoming mere insects in the shadow of ConAgra and Monsanto, without a legion of corporate lawyers to overthrow the system that seemingly works so well for our country, there is always the rightness of your individual voice.

I have a problem with animal testing. A big problem. Just about the same as I have for the practice of vivisection. There is a documentary out there from about 15 years back called "To Love or To Kill" which explores our treatment of our fellow animals.

Keep your conscience and free thought/action. Believe that your light can burn brightly.

i'm precisely such as you!! i immediately hate somebody who does not like animals. animal finding out is doubtless certainly one of the worst issues and in maximum circumstances soooo un-mandatory.. like for hair spray or shampoo... WHY???? its merely incorrect!! i savour you lots for being vegan and your dad sounds similar to an asshole (with all due understand) i might do all i will to get my pets and get the hell out of there. Threatening to kill your pets in case you have a controversy isn't on !!! he of course has matters. heavily nonetheless. do never think of your loopy for feeling this variety. loopy are people who do no longer care! i recommend how are you able to no longer care approximately an harmless animal who merely needs to be enjoyed and fed...?! xx

Yes, it's best to forget about an ethical economy. It just won't ever happen. I suggest yoga as a natural, cruelty-free way of coping with it.
