What do you think about giving homemade jam and chutney as a wedding favour?

I want to make something for my wedding favours instead of buying something. I was thinking of making jars of jam and chutney and giving each guest a jar of jam and chutney as a favour. We're not having a huge wedding, it's only going to be 100 or so at our wedding.

Do you think it is too much to make jam and chutney? Will it make us look cheap if we give homemade favours?

I think it's very nice! So many wedding favors are basically useless junk but a jar of jam I could eat on toast and think of the newlyweds. I don't think it looks cheap at all, it looks like you put in some personal thought and time and that always means a lot more than money.

My friends did that, chutney for the men, jam for the ladies. They tied the jars with a pink bow to match the colour theme of the wedding. it was the perfect favour. I don't like the candy coated almonds, too hard to eat. The chutney and jam was great and a true reflection of my friends

I think this an excellent idea. It is personal, involves actual work and care in the preparation... and does not fall into that awful commercialised wedding industry nonsense.

If I was coming to your wedding... I would be 'chuffed' to receive such a memento.

I hope your wedding is the first of many wonderful days.

A small wedding party will be mostly your family and friends so you should look at the people you will be catering for. What would they think of it? Maybe a small candle or match book with both your names on it and the date would be better and probably would not cost much more than the ingredients and the small pots for the jam, not to mention the hassle of making them. You will have enough to be worrying about .

Some people do not like home made items.

No reflection on you or anyone else. That is just

    how it is.

Several small candy coated almonds wrapped in a netting type of material, tied with a bow is a great idea.

No, it will make you look practical and resourceful. Although it is an unusual wedding favor, I think it works. My daughter is getting married the end of July, and I'm going to mention your idea to her.

I think if it is packed in attractive containers it could prove a real hit with guests.
