What would I need and how much would it cost to start my own coffee shop?

I'm just a house wife - though not actually married yet - at the moment and I want to own my business to run by myself. I enjoy baking and making coffee and tea for others. I am aware it is hard work but it is something I really want to do. I used to work in a cafe a long time ago as a waitress but quit after university. I don't have qualifications when it comes to food safety, etc, though I believe the fe college in my area runs one that is a couple days long.

    Your main costs will be

    # Rental / Lease and up front Bond.

    # The insurance you will need on the property.

    # Public Liability Insurance.

    # A Good Coffee making machine

    # A Fridge

    # Cash register

    # Sign Writing

    # Telephone line set up and costs. This is a hard one. Do you really need it ? Mobile enough ?

    # Chairs and Tables. I'd buy those 2nd hand. Table cloths

    # Cups and saucer, spoons and stuff.

That's about it. I'm sure I have left things out. I can not put price's on them because I'm in Australia, and I don't know where you are. Rent will vary from City to Town and it's location. So will insurance.

Wish lots of luck, go do a course at collage. Even if you never go ahead with the idea. !!

    Cheers from DOWNUNDER

You are going to have to buy or lease premises. Have a look at Daltonsbusiness.com, type in catering and your area, and it will show you business's for sale.

You will need all the food hygiene safety certificates and a knowledge of catering regs. You will pay, rent, insurance, business rates, utilities. You will need a good credit rating to get an account with suppliers. It is difficult to do this by yourself ans you will never get time off, and if your cafe is closed your customers will go elsewhere.

    Good Luck.

You are the only one that can figure that out. Go to http://www.score.org/template_gallery.html and download the Excel template for estimating startup costs.
