Question on the suspension seatpost of my Trek 7300 bike the seat spins?
My neighbor just gave me this bike. I don't know much about bikes but I'm pretty sure this is a problem. The seat spins around, even when its tightened down. There a like a threaded cap that you screw onto the top of the seat post which looks like it should grab the square tubing that the seat is attached too. It looks like the plastic piece that should grab that square part and tighten it down when it is screwed on is broken. Is it possible just to buy this piece? I'm not sure what to even call it, thanks.

I would just replace it for a solid seat post I don't care for the suspension and it really doesn't do anything. There should be the size stamped on it somewhere like 27.2 that will be the diameter. It may have the length also marked something like 350 mm. If not just measure it. You also have to look at the way the saddle is mounted and get the same thing.
Just get an alloy one.

Find out exactly what size seatpost it is. They are measured in millimeters. It will be stamped on the seatpost itself in VERY small numbers. If it's broke, new ones are not that expensive. Example on link below - only an example. Your exact size may be bigger or smaller - but this is a common size.

Best option you have, bring it into a bike shop and show them whats wrong. It may also need a tuneup depending on when the last one was which will cost 30-40
