    It is an extraordinarily broad question.

    There are many ways sociologists might look at sport. I'll list a few.

    - Sport and social mobility

    - Sport and nationalism

    - Sport and group identity

    - Sport and economics

    - Sport as a mechanism for social control

    - Sport and politics (e.g. football hooligan gangs taking up political doctrines)

    Google Dr Ramon Spaaij, he works at my university and he has written extensively on the subject.
