Has anyone tried the DoubleMySpeed.com or pcmatic.com websites?

Are these valid websites?. Does the program has acess to vital file info?

Leery about using them on my 10 year old Dell Desktop.

    Scams...a quick google search of both brings up plenty of complaints. They just want your money and they will not help your computer.

    To fix your computer remotely it would take a real computer tech using a program like Logmein to actually see what's installed and running on your computer. Computers are not fixed by letting a website run a registry cleaner on your computer and then charging you to fix non-existent errors.

    "soup..." is spot on.

    These gimmicks you see on TV are unrestricted exploitations of folks who are desperate and know nothing about fixing what ails their Windows machines.

    Something 10 years old could most benefit from these steps:

    Move all your data files (things you've created with the computer) to CD/DVD or external hard drive;

    Back up your current drivers (Try Driver Magician Lite (freeware);

    http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwbackup....

    Use it to identify & back up all drivers for this BU. Put the file it creates onto a dedicated CD. Always keep it with your unit.)

    Then:

    Re-install the operating system (XP?) with the original disks.

    Re-install data.
