Can I be charged VAT on postage in the UK?
As well as charging me VAT on the goods , when i questioned them about the amount they said the VAT was on total costs including postage.

You can't be chagred VAT on just postage, what they have done is added the cost of postage to the total, its not illegal but its not good practice.
