Long ethernet cable for Xbox 360 slow connection?
I am stuck between getting a wireless or a wired connection for my Xbox 360. I am guessing that a wired connection would work best, but the ethernet cable I would have to use would have to be pretty long. If the ethernet cable is long, will that make my connection slower? Thanks for the help.

No, the length of the cable makes absolutely no difference.

Ethernet cables can be up to 300 feet long with no degradation in signal or speed. However most stores only sell cables up to 100 feet long. If you really need one that's longer, you'll have to buy a spool of cable, a crimping tool and some connectors. The crimping tool will come with instructions on how to make your own ethernet cables.

No. You can go as far as 100 meters although there are some restrictions to that number. In your case (assuming an Xbox connected to your DSL router) 30 meters should be fine. But buy STP (shielded twisted pair) and ground the shield if both your devices aren't. My DSL modem doesn't have a shielded socket but my PC does. The Xbox probably does too. 30 meters of UTP (unshielded) is a heck of an antenna and the longer you go the more interference you get. It's not slowing down your box because is too long. It's the number of retransmissions generated by the high rate of errors that affects your performance. Check if there's a way to see network statistics to evaluate the quality of your installation.

100 meters is the limit for a "long ethernet cable" before connection is degraded.
