41 year old female in constant heat?

Ok: This is embarrassing enough for me to get an opinion before I go to Doctor.

I have always had a great normal sex life up until I was about 35 years old. From about 35 to 41 years old...I didnt even want sex. I was lucky enough to put out once a month to my husband.

Well, for the past month I have been so horny that I am wanting sex 2 or 3 times a day about 3 days out of a week. Another thing is: One time I was just shopping with my husband at Menard's...out of the blue I got really sweaty (like menopause) and horny at the same time. It drove me NUTS!!!

My question is...is this the real menopause that I am experiencing? or is this the normal stage that a woman goes through when she is in her early 40's?

Menopause means you haven't had a period in 12 months in a row. What you have is perimenopause, which is the time before menopause when you have irregular periods and sharp fluctuations in hormones. Perimenopause can last for years. You probably didn't want sex from 35 to 41 because your hormones, especially testosterone, were at a low ebb. The ovaries functioned less and less, until your pituitary gland (the "master gland"), which controls ovarian functioning, sent out a massive signal to jump start the ovaries. This caused the ovaries to overproduce hormones and the amount of estrogen and testosterone in your body shot up a lot. Your body had likely become hypersensitized to these hormones due to having low levels for awhile. So the hormones gave you a large kick in the libido. You can expect such fluctuations for awhile. No telling how long.
