Saltwater fishing in South Louisiana: What makes good artificial bait instead of shrimp?

I have been fishing with shrimp, and have caught drum, catfish, and croaker. There are supposedly reds in the lake, but I haven't caught one yet.

    I like to use a 3" coffee colored grub with a 1/4 oz. gig head. We catch alot of Specs and Reds here in Destin on these!

    +1 on the DOA baits.. the shrimp work great suspended under a popping cork!

    Rat-L Trap, lead head jigs with plastic cocahoe or Deadly Dudley.

    If you want to try other live baits, try a small crab (about 2or 3 inches wide) on a long shank hook. They are the best.

    try DOA jigs

    for trout as well as reds
