How to you play a chord between three strings with the middle one not played (Guitar)?

It seems a little awkwardly worded, so let me elaborate. Say you're playing a chord on a guitar using the E, A, and D strings. The fingerings are for the E and D strings, with the empty string in the middle, the A, not having a finger. Let me get a reference link to a song that has what I'm talking about.

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/r/rise_against/aud...

It has 7 on the A and a 9 on the G, with the D string left open. How am I supposed to strum that without it sounding bad? Or in general, how do you strum chords such as that?

Update:

Thanks.

Just use your index finger to mute it by holding the A while letting your index lay flat over the all these strings below it. Then take your ring finger and play the G.

So just learn by playing only the A and strumming all strings A through High E so you get just 1 note that rings out then add the ring finger. Once you learn to do this you can start having fun and start strumming from up in the shoulder and making wide strokes instead of just some wrist and elbow movement.

Another thing you can try utilizing the same technique is called a "rake". Take your finger and lay it flat across of all 6 strings and the harmonic positions on the neck and drag your pick up the strings from the bottom up. Mix it with these chords and you can gain alot of control over extra unwanted string noise.

A bass guitar and a guitar are two seperate things. Just like how you can have an acoustic guitar and an electric one, you can have a bass (meaning the type you use in orchestras) or you can have a bass guitar (another way to say an electric bass). The bass differs from the guitar (speaking in the electric sense) in the fact that the strings are made out of metal. Being able to play the guitar does not mean you can play the bass. I learned to play the guitar first and switching to bass was a little different. Guitar music (tablature) is written on the treble clef, bass tabs are written on the bass clef, so you have to shift the way you read the music to fit the instrument. As for physical playing, there is no way for me to put in words how different playing the two instruments can be. Each instrument, guitar and bass, has it's own set of rules to follow.

Playing guitar has enriched my life, and I want to help you get that same feeling by going through these guitar lessons https://tr.im/5VH4k

By the end of some lessons, you’ll be able to strum and know enough chords to play a few of your favorite songs, which will be a lot of motivation for you.

You put a finger on A but don't press down to the fret. This will keep it from vibrating.
