Hoarding and storage?

Hi, well right now in my room I have plenty of storage.. Sound's good but most of the storage is occupied by things I have accumulated throughout the years/months. Just today I done a full de-clutter of my room - meaning I emptied out the drawers and parted with things I don't need. I found a cd player and broken keyboard and more things that I no longer use.

I want to do up my room soon, and in comparison to the amount of storage I have now, there won't be alot of storage. There will be places for clothes, shoes, books, dvds, beauty products, and a work desk.

The thing is I think limiting my storage a bit would be better for me as I can see myself with a pile of junk 'cos I have places to put it. So, my theory is that if I limit my storage, I am limiting the amount of stuff I can hoard, so I could keep tabs on what I do and don't want. My room right now Is fairly hard to manage because I have quite a bit of stuff in so many different compartments - it's just a recipe for disaster the way I see it.

So I am asking you, do you think limiting my storage would help me keep tabs on what I want and don't want?

Thanks in advance

Update:

Btw, I'm not a full on HOARDER, It's just in my head, if I have the extra storage for thing's I will keep it. That's why I think if I keep the storage a bit more limited then I can choose better what's to go and what isn't. And, I never leave things lying around, it's all tucked away in different pieces of storage. If it helps, this is the room i am getting plus a big wardrobe : http://www.roomzaar.com/rate-my-space/Girls-Rooms/...

The answer to this is to look at the things you have and ask if you have used them in the past six weeks. If you have not, get rid of them This does not apply to say winter coats in summer or the other way about but it does apply to just about everything else.

It does apply to tight or uncomfortable shoes. If you can'[t get used to them after a few wearings, chuck them out, because you never will.

I am in the process of lightening the load here. I started just before Christmas by selling a few things and every couple of weeks I throw a few things away. Last week was one of the bigger efforts with the recycling bin here nearly half full and me giving away a small carton of glassware as well. There is still plenty left after 20 years in this house.

I have not missed anything that has gone.

If you are a hoarder then your limitations of space will not limit your clutter. You will find a place to keep something if you want it. Maybe try going through your things every couple of months and getting rid of things you haven't used in the last months. I do this every month and my mom does it every other month. You should find that you have things in there that you haven't used since the last time you cleaned and these are the things you should get rid of.

It will if you resist the urge to keep it anyway and pile it up.
