2000 Ford Explorer Temp Gauge Inop?
I have a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport 4x4 with a 4.0 OHV engine. I bought the Explorer with the temp gauge not working and now its time to fix it. The gauge stays all the way down on cold and doesn't move a hair. I tested the gauge by ground out the red/white wire and the gauge sweeps as it should. After that I thought it must be the sender so I replaced it and it didn't solve the problem. The thing is the harness is a single wire, but the sender I pulled out and the new sender both have 2 pins. I went online and checked the part number and its for my application. I really think that these senders are boxed wrong. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

Well this one is kinda tricky. You actually have two coolant sensors/senders. The two wire one (sensor) is for the engine computer/emissions control. The single wire one (sender) is for the gauge. They are both on the head several inches apart. You need to get the one with a single wire post. Ford's part number is SW-5174, but I see both kinds, so check what you get. I think the last guy ran into the same problem, put the two wire one in by mistake, and just decided to leave the wire disconnected since it didn't fit.
