Countdown timer for Powerpoint?

I'm looking for a small countdown timer I can insert into existing slides in a powerpoint presentation. In this case I want a slide to come up, and then on a mouse click the timer to start and then stop on another mouse click. It's for the discussion of resolutions at a Conference. The resolution appears on the screen for the audience to see and then the speakers either for or against get 3 minutes to speak. I want everyone to be able to see how much time is left, especially the speaker. I don't want it on another slide, it has to appear in or on the body of the slide being debated.

Also please don't point me at tushar-mehta's TM for powerpoint since that costs money, I need a free one or a set of instructions as to how I can design my own.

Thanks

Update:

Edit: Thanks Liz, but that's not what I'm looking for. It needs to show the time and that is a full slide, something that won't suit my purposes.

There is a simple way to make a countdown timer in PowerPoint. I hope it will be helpful to you.

Now, you will be quite clear how it works: use the second rectangle group to cover the first one gradually. It is a simple countdown animation. As long as you can handle this one, you can think more and create a much complicated one.
