A right triangle has legs of lengths f and g and a hypotenuse of length h.?

If f^2 + g^2 + h^2 = 578, what is the value of h?

    f^2 + g^2 = h^2

    so, 2h^2 = 578

    => h^2 = 289

    i.e. h = 17

    f^2 + g^2 = h^2....................Pythagoras theorem

    f^2 + g^2 = 578 - h^2.............[given]

    So h^2 = 578 - h^2

    2h^2 = 578

    h^2 = 289

    h = square root 289 = 17
