how great of an effect is thermal expansion of water in a change of 2 degrees Celsius?
specifically sea water. How could i calculate how much the volume of a body of water would change given it's previous volume and change in temperature? this is not for a class or homework. purely for my own education :)

The first answer will help. The list provides the density of water at some different temperatures. Start with a given mass of water (say 1.0 grams) and calculate the volume it occupies (mass divided by density gives you volume). Now calculate the volume that same mass occupies at temperature 2 C higher or lower. That gives you the relative volume change for 1 gram. Now estimate how much total volume is in the body of water at the first temperature. Then multiply by the relative volume change.
