Hello, I'm Edward. I'm from California and I love it here. You will most often find me in the environment section and sometimes in the society & culture section. I'm a college student, an avid snowboarder, experienced hiker/backpacker and I have a passion for the environment, and humanity. I have taken classes on the environment, sociology, and philosophy. math is not my strong point, but i love science. I am not the most knowledgeable person here, but I always try to be honest and fair. If i see an answer that may disagree with my own opinions, but I recognize it as a best answer, i will most likely vote for it. Fairness and good will toward others is something I think we all need more of. peace!

2 AnswersBuying & Selling4 years agoHow can we change the public school system?
what are some Ideas that would help our education system become more efficient and educate more people? I think currently the "one size fits all" strategy is fundamentally flawed and people should be discussing how to improve it.

3 AnswersPain & Pain Management9 years agomisinformation vs. real information?
straight forward question. with regards to the information out there on global warming, how much real information is out there versus the amount of misinformation? i mean scientific, peer-reviewed, published articles vs non-peer-reviewed, incorrect, and misinforming articles. is there a relation between where the article comes from and how valid its claims are? does it refine the debate on global warming or keep it at a stand-still?
this is not an "is global warming real?" sort of question so i would appreciate any statistics, sources, honest trends that you've seen or noticed. thanks to anyone who answers. peace!

2 AnswersOther - Science1 decade agoIs climate denial a religion?
It appears that most religions arise from the inexplicable properties of our world and universe. Most religious groups detest science and scientific findings because it antiquates religious theories. I find that these same characteristics are held by some denier groups. They take something which they cannot explain ie. climate change, and make up theories about it.
I'm aware that AGW has been claimed numerous times to be a religion, by deniers. However, it seems to me that the shoe doesn't fit.
What do you think?
thanks!
13 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agowhat are some good denier theories to explain current warming?
current warming:
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/
I already have:
-It's volcanoes
-it's the sun
-global expansion
-solar expansion
-there is no warming because it's not hotter than it was 13 years ago.
although i can negate most of these theories, i still feel like my list is incomplete. What are some more theories which i can look into? thanks!
peace!
13 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agowhy all the buzz about CFLs?
As I've learned in my environmental classes and simple research on the internet, compact fluorescent bulbs contain mercury. This has raised a lot of negative criticism about "going green" and environmentalism. Yet the concern is not for the environment, it's for human health.
browse around google to see what I mean
http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&pq=comp...
CFLs are safe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compact_fluorescent_l...
So my question is why is there such resistance by many to "go green" or otherwise be more environmentally friendly? I don't think it's because CFLs have mercury.
I advocate LED bulbs because they are better for the environment. However, CFLs should not get a bad rep because they contain mercury.
thanks!
