How can we convince people to use metric units and their correct symbols?
I believe the world would be a better place were where people understand each other better if we would all use S.I. units. What do you find a convincing argument for using metric units in a particular situation.
For instance I convinced a pilot that using meters for altitude and kilometers for distance made using a glide ratio trivial. Calculating what airport he can reach if his engine fails is something be can do without a calculator if he uses metric units.
Using m/s for car speed would be great for safety. Not only could one immediately see how many seconds it takes to get to that crossroads in 250 m, but also one would be able to guess the time it takes to slow down given a certain deceleration close to g = 9.8 m/s^2.
Do you have more examples that I can use to convince people?

No, those work. Many people have an emotional attachment to the imperial system and hate change, so to soften the blow of changing to metric, you could tell them that the US could use both imperial and metric, rather than just going straight to metric. But don't tell them that gradually imperial will have to phased out.
