Physics question - properties of sound?
In the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, when Augustus gets sucked into the pipe in the chocolate river, is that pipe considered a vacuum? I'm trying to prove that his shouts should not have been heard. Is this correct?

I hope for him it wasn't, since human tissue coming into contact with vacuum wil expand (it's used to providing a pressure of 1 bar to the environment at all times). Blood vessels explode, and you start bleeding everywhere. If your head is exposed, blood vessels in your brain all explode at the same time and you die instantly.
EDIT: This is what a teacher told me once in highschool, reading into it more I'm not so sure she was telling the truth xD so don't take my word for it.
You're right about the sound though. There is no sound in space, since sound is basically a pressure wave through a medium. No medium = no pressure = no pressure waves = no sound.
