Ballet level question?
I am going to start a ballet class in the fall and I wanted to know what level I should start with. I am 14 and have been a competitive figure skater for 4 years, but I have gotten increasingly frustrated with it so I'm switching to dance. I already have good balance and flexibility from skating (I can do a splits left and right but not middle) and I'm am in Intermediate-Advanced contemporary dance. I am 5'6" and 97pounds. so basically we come to my question what level should I start with? I have had a small amount of ballet but it was 2 years ago and I was in grade 5 ballet. I was also wondering how long would it take me to get to en pointe? And am I starting too late to get any good? (I obviously won't be starting from the very beginning but still) Thanks you for any and all answers!
BTW I do 30mins of ballet in the beginning of my private contemporary lessons and I can do up to double pirouettes, Tours en l'air's, and double and triple pencil turns

I think you should start in either RAD grade 5/6 because it's around the right age group for you and you seem quite advanced if you can do double pirouettes e.c.t. If you find it too easy, your teacher will move you up. By the beginning of grade 6 you should probably start en pointe but it depends how strong your feet are. I am 13 and I am in RAD grade 5 and should be starting en pointe in grade 6. Hope this has helped and btw it's not too late to start especially if you already know some ballet

The answer all depends on whether you have learnt ballet long enough to learn all the basics before giving it up before. Engaging the turnout from the hips and maintaining it must be learnt and all the strength and balance and stability must be achieved for demi-pointe before considering starting pointe work. I would talk to your teacher when you start ballet to discuss your aims and needs within the syllabus work. I would recommend starting in an ISTD grade 4/RAD grade 5-6 class. This will allow your new teacher to assess where you should be and then maybe move you up or keep you in that level. It should also mean that you shouldn't find the work too hard to start with.
It's not too late to get good but you may not get to professional level and make a career out of it.
I hope you enjoy and good luck.
