dvi to hdmi connection no audio?

I have a pc hooked up to the TV. I've just brought a DVI to HDMI cable to do this.

When hooked up, the picture is fine yet no audio.

As far as the PC is concerned the HD audio device is not connected.

The cable supports audio.

The graphic card supports audio and I have just updated the drivers.

Any ideas?

Update:

The answers all state that DVI has no audio and yet I have been reading that this is a common misconception. The cable suppliers do sell the item as having audio, and the drivers for the graphics card include audio drivers.

The computer also believes that there should be an audio device connected via hdmi.

ATI makes a video card with integrated sound so yes, in that case, DVI will handle both BUT you have to disable your onboard sound or sound card and enable the ATI one. This is more trouble than it is worth. Just connect the audio separately - much cheaper than buying a specialty video card.

You need a cable that is purpose built to transmit the audio component and translate it into HDMI, a vanilla cable will not do. I don't know where to obtain such a cable, I would try checking your video card documentation online. nVidia and ATI have different solutions for this.

Dude, even my pet turtle knows DVI doesn't have audio. You will need to connect your computer's audio output to your TV separately.
