Clips won't import into iMovie?

Hey everyone,

I have a few videos in AVI format that I'm trying to splice together into a youtube video... however, whenever I choose to import the videos it takes less than a minute and then nothing shows up. It looks like I never tried to import anything-- the event is totally empty! What am I doing wrong? I tried using Perian to convert them to MOV but that didn't change anything either. Help?

First, make sure the original AVI files are not corrupted – try if they play at all: open them in QuickTime player (with Perian installed).

Perian only supplies decoders to open and play video in QuickTime. To convert the video files, you need to use a conversion program, otherwise the actual video and audio data would not be transcoded.

If you don't have a QuickTime Pro, use MPEG Streamclip (freeware). Download from http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac... (choose the latest beta version).

Open the AVI file in MPEG Streamclip and choose File>Export to QuickTime (or press Cmd-E.) When the options window appears, choose 'Apple Intermediate Codec' from the 'Compression' drop-down menu. Select the 'unscaled' frame size and set Quality to 100%. Then click on 'Make Movie' and name the new file…

Import the resulting file in iMovie.

ok, i think the reason it didnt do anything is that the file converter doesnt change the original file, it just makes a copy of a .MOV. search in the top right corner of your screen in the magnifying glass the name of the file and then after that type .mov or just look for the one with the extension .mov

First put your videos into iphoto (put the clips on your desktop and then drag them into iphoto). Close imovie and then reopen it. It should say imovie will now create thumbnails. Click now and wait a few minutes. Then it will show your videos.
