Ebayers, what rating should I give this seller?

My most recent transaction on ebay was very unique. I received the item way after the estimated date for it to arrive and that was because I contacted the seller to see why I hadn't received the item. That's not the unique part being that I've had to contact sellers a few times to see about when an item was shipped. The seller was apologetic in his response and was nice enough to send me an extra of the same item(golf glove) since it took so long. Now here's where the unique part comes in. The seller stated the shipping on the item would be free. The mail lady knocked on my door and said that she had a package for me and $.47 was owed in postage. My exact words were, "That's interesting." I'd never had to pay postage for an item I received in the mail as many of you probably have not had to do. For those of you who use ebay, you know you have to give the seller feedback. I really don't know what kind of feedback I want to give because there's not enough space to type what I want to say. It was positive that I got 2 items. It was negative that I had to pay postage. $.47 won't break my bank, but whose heard of paying postage for an item you receive to the mail lady? It was negative that it took so long to get the item. Simple math says add -2 to +1 and you get -1. I've given negative feedback once and a neutral rating once out of 350+ transactions. The negative was because I never got the item. The neutral was for some shenanigans although I did receive the item. What rating would you give?

I would give this person positive feedback. You basically got two gloves for the price of one. You could resell the extra glove and I am sure you would get more than 47 cents from it so you would end up profiting in the end. As far as receiving the item late, as long as it was shipped on time, it is out of the seller's hands and the Post Office would be responsible. Also, the seller was quick to respond with sending you a replacement free of charge, which in reality, he went out of his way to do this and didn't have to.

If the shipping label on the box was one of those pre-printed Paypal labels, the weight was off a bit which is why you ended up owing the Post Office. The seller has to weigh the box before printing off a label, so it is possible that the weight of the label plus the tape bumped the weight up an ounce or so, resulting in a higher shipping bracket.

Source(s): Ebay buyer and seller for several years. I always add an extra ounce onto the weight to account for the shipping label.
  • Positive feedback because as the other answerer said you got two gloves for the price of one :) It doesn't sound here like he cheated you out of any money, and it probably was just a case of miscommunication
