info on spider fumigation?

I have a VERY irrational fear of spiders and we seem to have more than usual in our home. My husband and I have been talking about getting a company to come in and spray the floor and baseboards and to fill in the cracks and things like that. We've been looking for information on this - being as I'm 32 weeks pregnant and in about 8 months I'm going to be having a home daycare in the basement - which is where we will be spraying. Is there anyone who can give me any information on this? How toxic is it? How does it work? Should I be spraying the WHOLE house, or is just the basement suffice since that's where they're coming in? What about having little one crawling around the ground 8 months from now? We seem to be getting different answers everywhere we look....

PS: I'm in Ontario, Canada

Any advice will help...

Thank you

Update:

Thanks Kapri, for the info. Thing is, spraying is a hell of a lot cheaper than councelling. I've already looked into that as well as hypnotherapy. All I know is that I need to get rid of all the spiders before I have to start going down there and doing laundry haha. I think I'm gonna try patching up the cracks and caulking the cracks and such. Thank you for the info :)

Irrational fear of spiders vs spraying possibly toxic chemicals exposing your baby to health risks?

Maybe look into some counseling to get over the spider-phobia, and also research less toxic spider control.

There are "green" pest control operators out there too, that use less toxic materials.

Caulking up cracks, baseboards, around windows and doors is a great idea. Vacuuming regularly in corners, behind furniture will help. Enlist hubby's help in this since you are pregnant!

here is a great link for spider info and ideas on controlling less toxically.

Just to let you know, I work at a garden center where spiders are numerous, and in my garden as well, and have never been bitten by a spider! They are not aggressive and will typically avoid people.

The really best way to get rid of spiders is a Transonic http://www.izola.co.uk/trans.html

I put one in my mothers heavily infested shed and within a day or two they were all gone. Web spinners and house spiders, the lot. Insects too banished. Miracle product and it's clean & electronic. You only need a power supply.
