Is there a real"illness"for people who will take someone elses account of an event&recall it as their own plz?

For a long time now I have known a person who does this.

At first I was just bemused by it, then later it would make me cross, but now I wonder if there is an under-lying reason?

Yep. It really does. It has something to do with memory as one answerer said. It's something like selective memory, but a little complex. The brain takes in what it wants to and turns it into their own without realizing it. It's pretty sad. Most ppl are guilty of it. I think it also has something to do with ADD etc.

Yes, IRRITATING, my friend does this constantly, but forgets that I told her in the first place,

and I fill in the bits she missed. Rather embarassing, but she still does it.

Maybe it's called Selective Memory Loss.

Source(s): P.S. I am very fond of this friend.
