In various vampire stories, how are people turned into vampires?

Just wondering how different vampire stories have portrayed "turning". Different variations would be interesting to hear about.

Thanks! :3

    You get bitten

You have to die with vampire blood in your system

You get cursed (such as by a witch or in this one story it was a gypsy)

That's the only ways I have read about =)

Being drank from by a vampire.

    Drinking from a vampire.

In the book Darren Shan they use their vampire nails to cut the humans fingertips and do their own and then transfer the blood across so they absorb human blood and the human absorbs vampire blood and with that becomes a vampire.

Being born the child of a vampire.

    Being cursed.

Being chosen as part of your destiny.

The way they have it in House of Night (don't know how to describe it).

I'm sure there are more but I can't remember them.

The idea of a vampire biting a mortal is complete rubbish invented by Bram Stoker. Traditionally the vampire's victims died as they were drained of their blood. To become a vamprie you must have lived an evil life. Vampires were traditionally the reanimated corpses of criminals, suicides and witches. They were bald-headed, smelled bad, had long fingernails and spread disease. Becuase they comprise dead tissue they are unable to reproduce, so the only born vampires are demons in human form like Lilith and Belial cursed by God to wander the earth

  • Being bitten is the most common, as seen in Bram Stoker's "Dracula."

Drinking the Blood of a Vampire, as in Anne Rice's "Interview With a Vampire."

And in Peter Watts's "Blindsight," Vampires were found to be a divergent Evolution from Humans that died out when euclidean Architecture became common, and so were resurrected by reactivating dormant "junk DNA" in specific Types of Humans.

For the show The Vampire Diaries, the person must drink vampire blood and die while the blood is still in their system. If they drink and are not killed during that time they are still human. They drink the blood though since it help heals you.

    Bitten by a vampire

Have vampire blood injected into you.

Have vampire suck out all the blood from your body, cut themself, and have you drink blood from their body.

    Drink from vampire.

    Have vampire drink from you.

Those are the only ways I have heard of...
