Why is my parking brake light staying on?
I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu. Recently while I was driving my BRAKE light came on. My parking brake definitely wasn't on because I was driving it. Now I can't get rid of it. I've checked everything. The brake is self adjusting so I cant even adjust it. I checked my brake fluid level and even that is at the MAX line. I have no idea what else I can try and I can't even spot a brake fluid leak so I'm stumped. Please Help!!!

Very common problem in the Malibu, You have a bad brake fluid level switch causing the light to stay on!

My 2001 Malibu was showing both an ABS yellow light and red park brake lights on the dash. It has a foot pedal emergency brake, so the console removal was inaccurate. Surprisingly, I checked the wheel hub to deal with the ABS issue. Found the wires leading from the engine bay to the wheel hub severed completely and reconnected them thinking this would remedy the ABS light. Nope, resolved the parking brake light. Strange but it solved the problem. Still working on the ABS light….

Michael, there's a switch under the pull arm of the emergency brake that reads when the arm is lifted off the bottom stop. it's a tiny thing called a micro switch. the center console may need to be removed but some times this switch can be reached when the inner liner for the console glove box is removed.

There is a switch on the park brake on top and a wire going to it if the switch is damaged or wire pinched it could cause the light or brake level sensor could be contaminated...Good Luck

Stop light switch that is on pedal
Or
ABS relay
Or
ABS pump itself
