How to balance Ammonium Hydroxide + Sulfuric Acid -> Ammonium Sulfate + Water?
I know it is
NH4HO + H2SO4 -> NH4SO4 + H2O,
but that is not balanced (extra H on left side). How do I balance it?

Ammonium hydroxide is not "NH4HO", in fact, it's not even NH4OH. There is no NH4OH to speak of in a bottle "ammonium hydroxide". That's because molecules of NH4OH don't exist in aqueous solution, and there's precious little NH4+ and OH- in a bottle of "ammonium hydroxide". What we call ammonium hydroxide is actually ammonia (NH3) dissolved in water. A few NH3 molecules react with water molecules to make a very few NH4+ and OH- ions, just enough to make the solution slightly basic.
If you really want to write the reaction for sulfuric acid and "ammonium hydroxide", then it would look like this:
NH3(aq) + H2SO4(aq) --> (NH4)2SO4(aq)
And it would be **even better** to write it as the ionic equation, since some of these species only exist as ions in solution.
NH3(aq) + H+ + HSO4- --> 2NH4+ + SO4^2-
Sulfuric acid is a strong acid only for the first hydrogen ion that comes off. It leaves the weak acid HSO4- in solution.

If folks aren't going to write ionic equations which "tell it like it is", at least include the state symbols so a reasonably smart person would know which substances are dissociated into ions. Writing chemical equations without state symbols is like getting dressed, but forgetting your pants. My students simply don't write chemical equations without state symbols.

(NH4)2SO4 +2 KOH-----> K2SO4 +2H2O +2NH3 If your still getting problems to balance equations then here are some guidelines for you: 1.In a reaction the total number of atoms does not change. 2.The number of atoms on the left hand side must be equal to the number of atoms on the right hand side of the equation. 3. You must never change the formulae of substances to balance equations 4. numbers are aaded in front of substances to balance equations. That's all and i hope that these few things will you.Don't worry with practice you will know how to do it.

The correct formula for Ammonium Sulphate is (NH4)2SO4
So the balanced chemical equation is
2NH4OH + H2SO4 -----> (NH4)2SO4 + 2H2O

First off .... write it as NH4(OH). :)
Secondly , look at the reaction ....
NH4 is one on the left and one on the right .... BALANCED
SO4 is also one on each side ..... BALANCED
Now 1- O and 2- H are left , which form the last part on the right hand side , H2O
So basically the reaction is already balanced ...

it can be balanced by this way,
2NH4OH + H2SO4 -> (NH4)2SO4 +2H2O this is now balanced.
